Cool With You

Eileen Myles at my house in Austin, reading with the Cherrywood Poetry Workshop! A terrible photo of a wonderful night.

Everyone’s writing Substack newsletters these days, but I still love a blog. When my book Sister Arts came out, I had fun sharing my squee in short pieces about gardens, writing and art in a blog of the same name.

Now I’m finishing a new manuscript titled How Lesbians Saved Poetry, and I’m feeling the itch to blog again. There is just so much to say about lesbian poets, queer poetry, and the things that inspire us. I want to be in conversation with YOU.

My blog title, with a crushy swoon and bow of respect to Eileen Myles’s poet’s novel Cool For You, is from an unpublished poem that appears in my new book. The last few lines read:

egret poet purple hat
spiral practice
circle practice
bliss! and something cool!

something cool
with you

Let’s do something cool. More soon.
